BACKGROUND & SOURCING
Citrus oils are mostly cold pressed from the rind of the fruit, though some are vacuum distilled. In a beautiful, natural symmetry, the rind of citrus fruits are alkaline while the juice is acidic, giving citrus oils some really wonderful health properties that we can utilize!
KEY CONSTITUENTS
*Constituents are naturally occurring compounds in plants (and therefore essential oils) that give them specific health-supporting properties
- Limonene: known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress support, this is a powerful constituent with many health benefits
- Myrcene: boasts emotional soothing properties as well as immune bolstering properties.
CITRUS OILS & EMOTIONS
Citrus oils can be an instant mood booster! These oils are great for promoting an aroma of joy and creativity and lessening worries. Diffuse, apply, or add them to your favorite emotional support oils in a roller.
Citrus oils contain Limonene, a potent free radical scavenger. When there is less physical oxidative stress in the body, then there are less negative emotions. Citrus oils also contain compounds that boost your mood by increasing calming neurotransmitters in the brain, making them wonderful tools for emotional support.
DAILY HABITS WITH CITRUS OILS
Start your day with a burst of liquid sunshine by diffusing Orange, Lemon or Bergamot in the morning. These oils are delightful on their own, or you can combine them with complementary oils such as Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Neroli, and Peppermint.

There are so many incredible ways to use essential oils and adding them to our bath routine is one of them! Detox baths can be an incredible way to help your body through acute needs, help with skin issues, or help you get back above the wellness line as soon as possible! My boys know that when they aren't feeling their best, a detox bath with Epsom salts will be one of the first things they'll get to do.
DETOX BATHS AT A GLANCE
- Helpful when we are under the weather
- Can be great for both kids and adults
- Are a great, customizable way to use oils for specific needs
- Use magnesium and essential oils to help the body process and detox from invaders, environmental exposures, and more
- Use very warm water, sit for at least 40 minutes, and ideally sweat during that time
Detox baths are a really great way to give your body comfort, support, and a little TLC! This is a wonderful tool when you are feeling your defense go down (or they have already been breached!) or are fighting an acute skincare or muscle need. Essential oils, baking soda, and Epsom salts or magnesium flakes combined in hot water can help flush impurities from the body by allowing it to sweat out toxins!
BASIC DETOX BATH RECIPE
This is a super easy way to use essential oils and also help give your body some magnesium! We like the Epsom salts but magnesium flakes will work as well.
1 cup Epsom salts
½ cup high quality baking soda (optional)
20-40 drops essential oils of choice
Simply add oils to the Epsom Salts and mix well.
To use, run hot water into the container of salts and let it overflow into the tub!
When adding essential oils to detox baths, you can use your own judgment on the number of drops, but remember that we are using this for an acute need (versus a relaxing soak!). Because of that you want to use enough oil to give your immune, respiratory, or other body system the boost that it needs. For most detox baths, we use around 30 drops of essential oil. When we are making detox baths for our little ones, we usually use about 15-20 drops of essential oil, depending on their age. You can use your discretion and start lower and add as desired!
The goal with a detox bath is to sit in the bath with the water as hot/warm as comfortably possible. Ideally you are sweating as you soak so that your body is processing (detoxing!) the invaders! You want to sit in the bath for 40 minutes or so, up to an hour. The first 20 minutes will give your body time to remove toxins from your system while the last 20 to 40 minutes will allow you to absorb the minerals in the water and help you emerge from the bath feeling rejuvenated.
Some of our favorite oils for detox baths include:
Northern Lights Black Spruce, Idaho Blue Spruce, Frankincense, Copaiba
Dorado Azul, Ravintsara, Eucalyptus
Cilantro Vitality, Lemon, Pine
Purification, Thieves, Aroma Siez
FLEW-AWAY DETOX BATH
This is the recipe we swear by for acute immune needs! If you don't have all these oils, use what you have on hand. Feel free to play with the number of drops for a recipe that is exactly what you want! Also, we like to use tepid water in the presence of a fever for even more comfort.
1 cup magnesium flakes or Epsom Salt
½ cup high quality baking soda (optional)
15 drops Ravintsara
6 drops Frankincense
6 drops Idaho Blue Spruce
3 drops Dorado Azul
2 drops Eucalyptus Radiata
1 drop Wintergreen
Add oils to epsom salt and mix well, then run hot water into the jar of salts/oils and overflow into the tub to mix!
RAINDROP DETOX BATH
This curated set of essential oils is a powerful tool for promoting health, wellness and vitality – both proactively and for acute needs since the oils included can be incredible tools for healing! We love using these oils in rollers, massages, and in detox baths.
1 cup magnesium flakes/Epsom Salts
½ cup high quality baking soda (optional)
1 drop each Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cypress, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Peppermint, Valor and Aroma Siez essential oils
ROARING 20S DETOX BATH
In 2020, Pine, Geranium, and Lemon were huge players in our arsenal for ‘that which shall not be named.' Grab this recipe to help provide comfort and support for your immune system!
1 cup magnesium flakes/Epsom Salts
½ cup high quality baking soda (optional)
10 drops each Lemon, Geranium
15-20 drops Pine
SKIN SOOTHER DETOX BATH
This is one of our winter time go-tos. Adding oatmeal to the bath is helpful for more acute skin needs, especially for children. Think conventional oat baths but without the fake (chemical, man-made) fragrance!
1 cup organic oats, ground
¼ cup organic powdered milk (or coconut milk) (or goat milk)
1 Tbsp liquid castile soap
2 tsp Vitamin E oil
10-15 drops Frankincense
5 drops Lavender
5 drops Helichrysum
SOOTHING ACV DETOX BATH
This one is incredible for both the skin and for joints! An ACV soak with magnesium is a great way to support active lifestyles.
¼ cup magnesium flakes
¼ cup organic oats, ground
2 Tbsp sweet almond oil
10 drops each Frankincense, Idaho Blue Spruce, Lavender
¼ cup raw organic apple cider vinegar
Mix together and add to bath water. Then add ACV to the water and gently mix.
GENTLE DETOX FOR LITTLE ONES
This is a great recipe to tweak for your little ones! You can alter the oils as needed for specific issues, or you can add even less oils for younger children. If your child has trouble staying in the bath, consider reading to them or playing music while they soak!
1 cup magnesium flakes
½ cup high quality baking soda (optional)
15 drops Frankincense
5 drops Lavender
Simply add oils to magnesium and mix well.
To use, run hot water into the container of salts and let it overflow into the tub!
OIL CHOICES BASED ON NEEDS
Detox baths are a really wonderful tool to have in your toolbox and can benefit every need that you have. Use the basic recipe above and customize it based on your specific issue at hand:
Muscle love → Frankincense, Idaho Blue Spruce, Aroma Siez
Aches away → Peppermint, Lavender, Clove, Cypress
Immune needs → Purification, Lemon, Frankincense, Thieves
Shark week → Dragon Time, Copaiba, Aroma Siez
Belly woes → Ginger, Peppermint + Lemon, DiGize
General detox → Frankincense, Lemon, Aroma Siez, Lavender
Happy Soaking!

Iron is a crucial mineral for maintaining energy, supporting the immune system, and promoting overall health. If you're looking for natural ways to help raise and maintain healthy iron levels, Young Living's essential oils and supplements offer fantastic options that are much better than the stuff at your local grocery store!
LOW IRON AT A GLANCE
Common symptoms of low iron include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, and difficulty concentrating.
Iron-rich foods, supplements, and proper nutrient absorption can go a long way to raising iron levels.
Pairing iron with vitamin C improves absorption and supports gut health for optimal results.
THE POWER OF NINGXIA RED
NingXia Red is a nutrient-packed drink that plays a key role in so many areas of health, including supporting iron levels.
NingXia Red supports energy, immune function, and overall vitality.
NingXia Red is clinically proven to lower the effects of stress and improve sleep.
NingXia Red also includes citrus essential oils, which support health and immunity.
NingXia Red is rich in wolfberries (goji berries), which contain iron and vitamin C—a combination that provides the body with iron and also enhances iron absorption. Additionally, the robust antioxidant content of NingXia Red supports healthy blood cells and reduces oxidative stress.
LOW IRON AND MINERAL BALANCE
Balancing minerals is essential for maintaining healthy iron levels because several key minerals play supportive roles in iron absorption, storage, and utilization. In fact, many individuals who have low iron on a blood test focus on mineral balance and whole-food supplements to get iron levels back where they need to be.
Improves Iron Absorption: Minerals like zinc and copper are crucial for the enzymes that help absorb iron in the intestines. A deficiency in these minerals can lead to inefficient iron uptake.
Enhances Iron Metabolism: Magnesium and selenium help with overall nutrient metabolism, including the processes that involve iron utilization in the body.
Supports Hemoglobin Production: Copper plays a direct role in forming hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen and requires iron.
Promotes Cellular Health: A balanced mineral profile ensures that cells responsible for producing blood and maintaining oxygen transport functions operate optimally.
Prevents Imbalances: Excess or deficiencies in one mineral can interfere with others. For example, too much calcium can inhibit iron absorption, while a lack of magnesium can affect energy production and overall metabolism, indirectly impacting iron.
MINERAL ESSENCE
Mineral Essence is a liquid ionic mineral supplement packed with essential minerals that help create a balanced environment for optimal nutrient absorption.
Packed with minerals like magnesium, zinc, and selenium that play a role in iron metabolism and absorption.
Has a balanced mineral profile that ensures your body can utilize the iron you consume effectively.
Contains ionic minerals that are easy to absorb
Supports overall wellness, including energy production, bone health, and immune function
To use, simply add 5 droppersful to water or juice and drink daily. Its spicy, tangy flavor pairs well with citrus juices.
ESSENTIAL OILS FOR IRON SUPPORT
While essential oils don't often directly increase iron levels, they can complement your wellness routine by supporting related systems.
Lemon: Add a drop to water to support gentle detoxification and enhance vitamin C intake.
Peppermint: Promotes healthy digestion, ensuring your body absorbs nutrients effectively.
Copaiba: Helps soothe inflammation, creating an optimal environment for nutrient absorption.
TIPS FOR MAINTAINING HEALTHY IRON LEVELS
Pair iron with vitamin C: Combining iron-rich foods and NingXia Red with vitamin C improves absorption. Add Super C Chewable to your daily lineup when you take your NingXia!
Prioritize gut health: A healthy gut microbiome is key to efficient nutrient absorption. Probiotics like Life 9 can help.
Stay consistent: Regular use of supplements like NingXia Red and Mineral Essence ensures your body receives consistent support.
One more tip to help maintain healthy iron levels - cook using cast iron pans!

It’s our first week of Spring!
We’re gaining daylight, my horses are starting to shed their winter coats and so are the dogs. Some days are warm, others, not so much. Here in South Dakota, morning can feel like a beautiful Spring day and we can get a full blizzard by 4pm. But still, birds are chirping and on some days it does mostly feel like Spring!
I have a few tips for you for thriving through pollen season….if it isn’t 100% here yet, it will be soon! One of my favorite parts of Spring is when the Lilacs bloom, how about you?
Spring Pollen Roller for adults
10 drops each of Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint
Spring Pollen Roller for kids
7 drops each of Lemon & Lavender, 3 drops Peppermint
You can also add Copaiba to these rollers to make them even better!
Add these oils to a 10ml roller bottle and top with your favorite carrier oil. I love Young Living’s V-6 oil. Roll behind ears and down the side of your neck or on the spine and also on your feet. If you are going to be in the sun, be sure to roll these oils out of sight of the sun as Lemon can cause skin sensitivity in the sun.
Spring Diffuser Blends!
Add any combination of Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint & R.C., Eucalyptus and Thieves
Do you need a new super cute diffuser? Try this one! I've included the shopping link and BONUS, it’s on sale with the oils of Lime, Peace & Calming, Peppermint, Stress Away and Lemon Myrtle until March 23 at 11:59pm MT.

Other tips...
Support your digestive system with Life 9 probiotics or MightyPro for kids.
You can also use digestive enzymes as well, try Allerzyme! Supporting your digestive system is super important!
Quick note... not all essential oils are created equal. We only use the best and most pure. Not sure where to start? I would love for you to join my AWAKEN'd tribe and when you do I will send you a gift, plus guide you along the way.
